WHAT:
Facebook is an online social media website
WHY:
You can communicate with their friends and families through the website to share moments of their life through uploading photos, videos and posting messages.
There are also a variety of online games on Facebook available as entertainment.
WHAT HAPPENS:
Photos, videos and messages posted are displayed on your profile. Friends of your account can view, comment and share your photos. Facebook profiles can be followed. Tags can be added to photos to link your friend's profile to it. Private messages can be sent to one of your friends for a more private conversation.
HOW:
Using a computer or any hand-held devices such as tablets, smart phones...
ISSUES:
Everyone in your friends list can see the posts on your account
Privacy is not guaranteed, third party software can access your private data
Most of Facebook's profiles are bots which are designed to collect information on you for advertisers
Any redesign on the main site will set your security settings back to default, this makes your profile public to everyone.

Meta (formerly Twitter)
WHAT:
Meta is a micro-blogging service.
WHY:
You can send your stories, views and photographs to the world in 140 characters or less. You can follow celebrities and friends.
WHAT HAPPENS:
These messages and photographs are know as "Tweets". They only appear in the news feed of your followers, but can be found by anyone when they search for your 'hashtag'. You can remove these at any time. People can then retweet this message in order to share it with their followers, or they can @reply your tweet to share their views.
HOW:
Using a computer or any hand-held devices such as tablets, smart phones...
ISSUES:
It plays to your ego. Anyone in the world can see it. It remembers what you have posted for years to come.
HOW TO DELETE AN ACCOUNT:
Snapchat
WHAT:
Snapchat is a photo messaging application.
WHY:
You can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to your friends.
WHAT HAPPENS:
These sent photographs and videos are known as "Snaps". You set a time limit for how long recipients can view your Snaps (a matter of seconds), after which they will be hidden from the recipient's device and deleted from Snapchat's servers. Recipients can choose to reply with text or another *snap*.
Security Settings:
Friends only: settings, who can send me snaps..., select My Friends Block user: find user in your Snapchat contacts, press and hold, select Block. Save Snaps: be aware that photos you send can be saved easily via another app.
HOW:
Using a touch screen mobile device, either handheld or tablet.
ISSUES:
Photos shared can be automatically downloaded using another app. Users are tempted to share inappropriate photos/selfies that tend to be sexual/risque in nature. Once a photo leaves your phone, it is out of your control and someone may decide to upload it publicly on the web.

Skype is a free Video chat and messaging system.
WHY:
Skype is a social media app for contacting friends via video call. The software is user-friendly and calling somebody else with Skype anywhere in the world is free.
HOW:
Using a laptop, computer with web cam or a touch screen mobile device.
ISSUES:
Users may be tempted to share inappropriate content via video call that is sexual/risque in nature. There is also the potential to Skype strangers which may put the user at risk.

WHAT:
Kik Messenger is an instant messaging application for mobile devices.
WHY:
Kik is most often used for chatting with people you know.
WHAT HAPPENS:
Like any IM app it can be really useful but it can be dangerous.
HOW:
Using a computer or any hand-held devices such as tablets, smart phones...
ISSUES:
Being approached and pestered by strangers. Not knowing who you are chatting with. Bots are on the site.
Images can be downloaded off Instagram and re-uploaded anywhere else, even where you don't want them to be.
